Last year, we bid a farewell to our founder and CEO Harvey-Kennedy Pitt. We’re so grateful for his leadership and everything he achieved at Black Beetle Health.  

As we begin 2024, we’re thrilled to announce the arrival of our new Interim CEO, Lemmy Okelo! 

Lemmy is an experienced community leader and organiser, mental health practitioner, and LGBTQ+ advocate. She has vast experience within sexual health, trans awareness, dementia, hate crime, self-harm, and domestic violence sectors. 

In addition to previous roles where she has played a pivotal part in recruiting staff and volunteers, Lemmy has actively contributed to shaping organisational strategy, focusing on key areas such as fundraising, finance, and advocacy.  

She's collaborated with organisations including The WISH Project, Making Space, The Women’s Centre, MESMAC and Brunswick Men’s Health Services, alongside various LGBTQ+ youth teams.  

This work has led her to opportunities with statutory services such as the Police Hate Crime Service, Primary Care, and various community engagement groups. Her extensive involvement has cultivated a profound awareness of how services interconnect. 

Across her professional career, Lemmy has served as a subject matter expert on the production of health education and promotion resources. She’s designed and implemented one-to-one sessions and group workshops on self-defence, anti-smoking, sexual health, and domestic violence.  

On joining the Black Beetle Health team, Lemmy said: “I am excited to step into leadership of this outstanding organisation. A good course will come from pursuing our collective vision and focusing on the most important thing—people.”
